Abstract
ABSTRACT:

Introduction: Happiness is an important psychological category that is important in human life and has many positive symptoms.Happiness can be influenced by many factors such as spiritual beliefs. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between spiritual well-being and happiness among dormitory female students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: In a descriptive cross-sectional study, the relationship between spiritual well-being and happiness of 300 female students who were randomly selected were measured using two questionnaires of spiritual well-being and Oxford happiness. Descriptive data were presented with frequency tables, central indices, and dispersion, and the results were analyzed using multiple linear regression.
Results: The mean score of spiritual well-being and happiness was 166.4 ± 19.1 and 72.5 ± 12.4, respectively. Among the four subscales of well-being, the highest mean score was related to God and the lowest mean score was related self. The results showed that there was a direct and significant relationship between spiritual well-being and happiness (β = 0.381, P<0.001). Also, there was no relationship between type of faculty, grade point average, year and grade with happiness.
Conclusion: Based on the results, higher spiritual well-being is significantly associated with higher happiness. Given the cross-sectional design, causal interpretation is not warranted. Nevertheless, attention to spiritual dimensions may be relevant to student happiness and life satisfaction.
